A few meters from the Abbey

Villa Zanardini is located a few dozen meters from the Abbey: after traveling along via Roma and passing the tower overlooking piazza Aquileia, it immediately appears on the left.

Towards the middle of the 18th century, the Venetian family Zanardini built the villa in the forms corresponding to the current ones.

This description and the following information are taken from Parchi e Giardini storici del Friuli Venezia Giulia Un patrimonio che si svela.

The culture of the villa

"The elongated and regular plan building rises on three floors and is crowned by a triangular pediment. The access portal, flanked by rectangular windows with stone frames, corresponds to a three-light window with a balcony on the main floor. In the attic, there are four square windows: the simple and rectangular arrangement continues in the symmetrical wings. Stone statues rise on the pediment. The arrangement of the south facade overlooking the inner courtyard appears very similar, with traces of frescoes near the windows. On the western side of the building, there are also painted figures of considerable size". Umberto Trame, The culture of the villa

Le barchesse

In the maps of the Napoleonic and Austrian Cadastre, the "barchesse" that now enclose the courtyard do not appear. They were built in the late 19th century and clearly show the neoclassical reference that was so popular in that period.

Towards the countryside, there are cultivated lands. Oral sources pass down that the agricultural property was enclosed to the south by fish ponds.
