Calvi Refuge

The Rifugio Pier Fortunato Calvi is situated in a panoramic position, on an extraordinarily beautiful basin, where the waters of the Piave River spring, between Monte Peralba and Monte Chiadenis. Owned by the CAI section of Sappada, it has been managed for over 40 years by the Galler and Pachner families.

It offers 50 beds, services, showers, and a restaurant.

The cuisine, simple yet very varied, is one of the many attractions of the refuge. Many dishes of the Sappada tradition can be tasted. The aroma of polenta, naturally cooked on a wood stove, already whets the appetite of our eager visitors from afar.

The desserts, strictly homemade, range between aromas and flavors that bring back the genuineness of life from the past. Among the house specialties, we find a wide selection of our own production grappas, with herbs and scents from our area. In particular, the renowned P38, whose recipe remains secret.

The refuge is a convenient base for hikers, free climbing enthusiasts, nature lovers, but also for those who want to embark on a trip to discover the places of the Great War (galleries, forts, positions). Located on the Italian-Austrian border, the refuge is one of the possible stops of the famous Traversata Carnica, which, passing right at the foot of Monte Peralba, connects San Candido with Tarvisio. The breathtaking panorama that can be admired from the refuge is often the subject of photos and footage by visitors.
