The refuge is located in a very panoramic position on the northern edge of the Pian dei Larici, next to the upper station of the chairlift. Behind it are the mighty rock structures of the Siera Spitz, Piccolo Siera, and Cima Dieci.

The Longrone is a vast expanse of conifers located between Cima Sappada and Pian dei Larici. The walk, unjustly little frequented despite being the most interesting of the three possibilities to reach the Siera refuge, is varied, sunny in the second part, only at times a bit tiring, rewarding because your gaze can range from Cima Sappada to val Sesis, from the Peralba-Chiadenis group to Cimon, from the Volaia mountains to Coglià ns. During the journey, you will be accompanied by the voices of the shy feathered inhabitants.
