Poffabro houses one of the visitor centres for the Friulian Dolomites nature park, inside the old dairy. The dairy’s original machinery and tools are on display on the ground floor and these include pieces from the 1930s, when it was first opened, to the 1960s, when it was closed down. Among these, visitors can find the fixed bed burners once used to heat the milk, the processing plant with an electric engine, and a typical Friulian weights-based cheese press. A further permanent exhibition called “In mont - le malghe del Parco” shows the “casere” alpine shelters that are still in use in the surrounding area, and reproduces the inside of an alpine cottage, including the tools for processing milk and turning it into cheese, butter and ricotta. Lastly, there are two areas dedicated to the environment. One illustrates the geographical and morphological aspects of the flora and fauna in the Friulian Dolomites Park; the other one looks at the architectural, landscape and geological features of the Colvera valley.
