Palazzo Monaco
A beautiful palace located about halfway along "corso Roma", near "piazza Garibaldi". It is one of the buildings that has withstood the vicissitudes of the city's history, a fate quite different from the adjacent "palazzo Cisternini", now marked by only four finely carved pillars, the sole relic of a grandeur destroyed in 1799 by the Cossacks.
Palazzo Monaco dates back to the 16th century and retains a beautifully frescoed facade, with Gothic openings: its decorations and prestigious craftsmanship denote the good taste of the client. On the western front, a Marcian Lion can be seen, a work by the local "Scuola di Mosaico".
The splendid frescoes of the palace can be admired coming from both access towers, to the delight of visitors who can feast their eyes on this artistic marvel.
Opposite the palace, where the second city wall once stood, is the Palazzo Marsoni-Asquini, of 18th-century craftsmanship, now housing a bank, but once also the City Hall.
