La Macia

La Macia is an ancient unit of measurement for the length of fabrics, found engraved on a corner pillar of Palazzo La Loggia, in Piazza Duomo, and has been in use since 1438.

It gives its name to the historical reenactment that takes place every year around mid-August along the streets of the center of Spilimbergo.

The event recreates the atmosphere of daily life in the city at the beginning of the 1500s. Along the streets, merchants and bourgeois conduct their business, alongside nobles, knights, and beggars.

Musicians and artists who earn their living with their histrionic skills are also present, while the count's guards, Captain Theodoro's archers, and the soldiers of the land keep watch over everything.

Around the historical encampment and market, special events are offered every day, such as archery competitions, palios, flag-waving shows, and castle dinners.

The characteristic parade of city and guest community figures is not to be missed, as they go to pay homage to the count. A prominent role in the parade is occupied by the guilds of the arts and religious brotherhoods.
