The Loggia della Gran Guardia
The Loggia della Gran Guardia, built between 1620 and 1625, is a covered building with seven arches, located near the Palazzo del Provveditore Generale.
It owes its name and strategic position to the fact that, originally, it was the headquarters of the militias, the halberdiers and the cappelletti, who were tasked with escorting and defending the Provveditore Generale.
The subsequent structure, located at the corner with contrada Savorgnan, is a loggia with three elevated arches, the result of a 1924 renovation following the severe damage suffered during the First World War. This second structure, originally Loggia dei Mercanti, was dedicated in the post-war period to the Fallen: inside it houses the commemorative monument by Marcello Mascherini.
