Traditions

The Most Holy Redeemer

Every year on the second Sunday of July, the Feast of the Most Holy Redeemer is celebrated, patron of the fortress, but also the day when Gerolamo Cappello, General Superintendent, in the distant 1602, first raised the flag of the Republic of Venice in the center of the square.

On this occasion, many people wear costumes, weapons, and armor of the era to recreate the atmosphere of more than four hundred years ago.

The day ends with the nighttime parade by the light of the "ferali" when the banner of San Marco is lowered

Fiera di Santa Giustina - Regioni di gusto

On October 7th, the patron saint of Palmanova is celebrated: Santa Giustina.

Santa Giustina, a young Roman martyr, was killed by Prefect Massimo for being guilty of being Christian and providing aid to her fellow believers.

Her cult spread throughout the territory of the Venetian Republic immediately after the Battle of Lepanto, won on the day of her feast.
