A special place
The geological origin of the "Oasi dei Quadris" is due to the morphogenetic action of the Tagliamento glacier which deposited its debris and carved out pits and depressions.
The Quadris area constitutes one of these depressions filled by the meltwater of the glacier and then by rainwater. The current appearance consists of about thirty ponds surrounded by dense vegetation, with a regular shape (squares), created from the excavation of peat, which took place for about two centuries until the mid-twentieth century.
A part of this area, called "Oasi dei Quadris", is now the site of projects for the reintroduction of the white stork and the protection of the northern bald ibis.
