The Park

The park on the hill of San Floriano is an extraordinary example of environmental recovery and the only rural park existing in Italy. Owned by the Fondazione Ing. Luigi Bazzi e madre Ida, it was opened in 1980 and recognized as a rural park in 1991.

Since 1998, it has been part of Europarc Federation, an organization that protects European parks. The park extends across the entire hill with orchards, pastures, wooded slopes, animal enclosures, and accommodation facilities.

The park is considered a genetic bank that has become a reference point for agricultural technicians, students, and farmers. Catalog fields have been created with the aim of enhancing and preserving local fruit plant varieties. To protect the genetic variety of the livestock heritage, areas have been created for the breeding of cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, and poultry, and beekeeping has been activated.

The Church of San Floriano

At the top of the hill is the Chiesetta di San Floriano. Partly built with material from the Roman era, the small building stands on a site of great prehistoric and protohistoric significance. Inside, you can admire exquisite frescoes from the 13th and 14th century AD.

In the summer of 2014, the management of the park was entrusted to the social cooperative Controvento, which manages the two guesthouses and is committed to continuing the project of protection and enhancement of the area. The cooperative organizes musical events, recreational activities for children, courses on agricultural and farming techniques, and guided excursions.

The paths winding on the hill guide the visitor along a unique educational route to learn about the local flora and fauna. Visitors can walk barefoot on the dedicated sensory path, rediscover the scents of aromatic and medicinal herbs, engage in sports, taste local products, or stay overnight at one of the guesthouses.
