A "cultured" village
The theatre has always been a much loved pastime in Gradisca.
As early as 1792, the old public granary barn was used as “a place for theatre and entertainment”. Since 1850, the Theatrical Association of Gradisca has proposed operas and plays (with Eleonora Duse in 1873), balls and patriotic events, and the “Comelli Costumes” from Gradisca were famous throughout Europe.
The theatre was pulled down during the Great War, but promptly rebuilt.
